My Story

I think the best stories come from unexpected combinations. I didn’t go to a film school, because I wanted to learn how the world works: the physics, ecology, and philosophy that describe our existence. I didn’t want to just know how to make movies. I wanted to have something to say.

I have a lot to say, about a lot of stuff. Mostly, about the environment, how it shapes us and sustains us and how we could probably be nicer to it. I want to reach people who don’t watch documentaries with exciting, funny stories that just happen to have an environmental angle. Nothing is worse than a preachy movie, but nothing stays with you like a good one.

That’s why I’m getting my MFA: to write the best, funniest movies I can. So I can reach people with hope, not fear. Also, to run really fast.

In my pursuit of unexpected combinations, I’ve had some interesting experiences. I once rescued a hiker with a broken ankle from a snow-covered mountain slope, and burned a hole in my shoe at an Iceland volcano. I’ve been published in the American Journal of Physics, been stung by a stingray, and run a 4:12 mile.

My point, I guess, is that I think life is beautiful and the world is interesting and we should all care about each other. I write stories and jokes to try to say that.

Please hire me.
